‘Shawn’ was first announced in August, and was set for an October 18 release. Now, however, the singer-songwriter has taken to social media to share that the album will instead be released on November 15.
In a follow-up post, Mendes explained to his fans the reason for the delay: “My team and I have decided to push back the album release date to November 15th. We just need a little more time to bring some new inspiration and ideas to life. I love Thank you for being so patient, I can’t wait to see you at the next few shows.”

It is currently unclear what these “new inspirations and ideas” entail, and whether they will result in new songs or guest appearances. You can pre-order or anticipate the post now.
To accompany the announcement of the album in August, Mendes released the single ‘Isn’t That Enough’, followed by another song ‘Why Why Why’ a few days later. Mendes wrote and co-produced the album with Scott Harris, Mike Sabath (RAYE), Nate Mercereau (Andre 3000) and Eddie Benjamin, with additional songwriting from Amy Allen and Ethan Gruska (Bon Iver, Phoebe Bridgers).
Speaking about the record, Mendes said: “Music really can be medicine. 2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t walk into a studio without falling completely panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift.”
“Honestly thank god for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you really trust to see you through makes it so much better. I have no idea how I would have coped over the past few years let alone make an album without you.”
The album delay also comes on the heels of Mendes’ limited run of intimate shows in Woodstock and London, where he will perform ‘Shawn’ in its entirety. The show gave fans a first look at his new music in the setting where it was created. These performances will continue in cities where Shawn recorded the new album, including Nashville, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Seattle. See a full list of shows below and visit here for tickets.
