Reviews for Apple Watch see 3, Series 11 and Ultra 3 came out today. I’m in the process of reviewing them. I only have two wrists and there are three Apple Watches to review – so yes. Besides, I have to collect more health data before I feel good about pushing reviews. If you read reviews and ask yourself if you should get any of the new models when they become available this Friday 19. September, maybe I can help you make a decision.
As I said in my hands-on with Apple Watches after the awe-fearing Jawropping event last week, Apple’s trio of new smartwatches is a relatively straightforward update. All three models are available in GPS-Kun or GPS + cellular models, supplied with 5G connection (for cellular models), has the S10 chipsets and includes 64 GB of internal storage.
Get Apple Watch See 3 if you don’t need the latest and best that Apple has to offer on a wrist computer and only need the basics of excellent health and fitness tracking, an always-on-screen to tell time (finally) and you won’t pay too much. Watch SE 3 is a great value that starts at $ 250. See 3 sheep up to 18 hours of battery life with a single charge.
Get the Apple Watch series 11 if you want some more bells and whistles like slightly larger and lighter screens, a little thinner design, ECG, blood oxygen tracking (via the iPhone app) and a more advanced optical heart rate sensor for more accurate health and fitness tracking. The series 11 is also available in titanium finish, whereas SE 3 is only available with aluminum cases. The series 11 gets longer battery life compared to SE 3 – up to 24 hours with a single charge.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the most feature -packed smartwatch that Apple sells. It has everything the series 11 has, plus an even larger screen, satellite connection (emergency situations and messages) and the longest battery on any Apple Watch of up to 42 hours with a single charge.
It sounds self-explanatory options for good, better and best-but what if you already own an Apple Watch? Do you need to upgrade in addition to getting longer battery life? Because let’s be real if you’ve had your Apple Watch for even a year and you consistently use it to track training, the battery dies at a faster speed than if you just spend it to tell the time and get messages. The batteries in the Apple Watches will not last forever; They will inevitably go kaput one day or just don’t last as long with time.
If you are in that boat, do you really have to ask yourself this: Don’t you care about hypertension messages and the new sleep result?
Hypertension -Messages
Hypertension, also known often as chronic high blood pressure, is a life -threatening condition that can often cause heart attacks or damage your organs. It is called the “quiet killer” because you typically do not see symptoms. This is where hypertension messages come in. The feature received the FDA clearance Monday and will be made available in over 150 countries. Series 11 and Ultra 3 can send hypertension messages using data collected from their optical heart sensors, which are then processed through a “machine learning -based algorithm” designed from studies that included over 100,000 participants, according to Apple. “Apple Watch looks at your heart data and searches for patterns associated with hypertension,” the Hypertension Notification Setup screen reads in the health app. Apple Watch does not measure blood pressure; It’s just looking for the patterns that can match victims with hypertension.

Setting up Hypertension -Messages are simple enough, but it’s not something you want to be able to shoot up the command on your Apple Watch. “The algorithm works passively in background notification of data over 30-day periods and will notify users if they detect uniform signs of hypertension,” Apple said in a press release. Basically, if you are 22 years of age or older and you are not pregnant, there is no reason not to turn it on. Ideally, you never get a hypertension review, suggesting that you are a healthy person and have nothing to worry about. But if you do, you can at least take some preventative care if it is not yet serious. The notifications can potentially save your life.

Sleep score
The second Big Apple Watch feature that Apple announced last week is Sleep Score. This is a feature for all three of the new Apple Watches, including see 3. For me, it’s a big Finally moment, As I have long found that the sleep tracking on Apple Watches is missing compared to portable items made by other companies. Similar to the activity rings, sleep scores are a way to measure three sleeping measurements: Duration, bedtime and interruptions. These three pieces of data are represented in a ring or “donut” that Apple told me (see photo at the top) and they appear thicker or thinner based on how to achieve each one. You are then awarded a score and one of five classifications (very low, low, OK, high and excellent). The idea is that with a moment you can quickly see how well you slept and potentially make changes to improve any of the three measurements. In a way, it’s almost like gamifying sleep by changing you to improve your sleep result and then maintain it.
I have been a insomnia in the past year, and admittedly my sleep score has ranked “Low” this past week. Has sleep score made me feel shameful that I haven’t fixed my sleep? 100%. But I’m also very good at ignoring it, even when I know I have sleep problems. Of course it’s just me; I also ignore my activity rings more than I should and don’t stand when my Apple Watch tells me. Like just minutes ago, when I saw the message and just blasted it! Most people I know who own an Apple Watch are more disciplined than me when it comes to being pushed by their smartwatch to move or stand up or Do something. Seting my own bad habits aside, sleep scores are thoughtful designed.

Now back to the question of whether you should buy any of the new Apple Watches for these two features. If you want the latest and best Apple watches, then it is in any case. But there’s really good news! If you own a Watch Series 6 or newer, watch 2 or Ultra and later, you will get Sleep score for free in the just-released Watchos 26. If you have an Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or an Ultra 2 (sorry, and Ultra owners), you will get hypertension messages for free in the same software update. So check your Apple Watch model and think a little about whether these features appeal to you or not. You may be able to save a few hundred dollars just by downloading the new update.
