Soap’s long-standing actor William Roache has revealed that he had a two-year rivalry with AA Street Coronation Co-Star.
The 93-year-old actor who has played Ken Barlow on the ITV soap since his 1960 debut said he collided with Pat Phoenix, who played the legendary character Elsie Tanner
Phoenix was also an original role crew, who appeared from 1960 to 1973, before returning to an eight-year-old stint in 1976, but for two of these years, she didn’t see an eye to Roache.
Roache said coughs started over a scene where Barlow told Tanner to say unfriendly to his wife, Valerie Tatlock (Anne Reid).
The actor claimed that Phoenix disagreed with where played out and told the director, “I don’t think she would take this from this young man.” Roache said he found this unprofessional.
“She said she would do something in the end, and the instructor said” Yes, Pat, all you want, “Roache said on the panel with several co -stars, including Jane Dance (Leanne Battersby), Jack P Shepherd (David Platt) and Jimmi Harkinsin (Dev Alahan).
“Pat asked me to pause and she would throw an ashtray on me. I said, ‘No, Pat, you know what you’ve done and in terms of me it’s aprofessional.’ We didn’t talk for two years.
They shared many scenes together, but did not talk when cameras stopped rolling until she invited him to his birthday party out of the blue.

“Two years later we stand together and wait to film a scene that still doesn’t speak, and it was her birthday that came. She said, ‘Oh, I suppose you should come to my party then,’ and we became good friends after that. ‘

Street Coronation Celebrates its 65 -year anniversary on December 9, which also marks Roache’s 65 years on the soap. He has performed continuously on the series without smashing any breaks, making him the Lonest-server actor in seed story. He said he will continue to play Barlow until he is 100.
Roache reportedly earns more than £ 250,000 a year from his role, which would make him one of the highest paid role crew.
In 2024, however, Roache filed for bankruptcy after having a petition filed against him by HMRC.

A spokesman for Corria told The independent: “We are really sorry to hear about Bill’s financial situation. Bill has an ongoing contract with Street Coronation and remains a very loved member of the role crew. “
The actor receives an OBE from King Charles for Services for Drama and Charity in 2022.
At the time he said, “I am very happy to receive an obe as it is such a wonderful honor. I can meet you how proud I am.
“” “Street Coronation Have given me so much in life and I absolutely love the program and everyone who works on the show. “
