Opening ceremony for the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024
On Wednesday 28 August 2024, the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will be held. The event will take place on the Place de la Concorde and on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées.
The French delegation in numbers
In Paris 2024, there will be 236 athletes* and 20 guides who will represent the French delegation: 7 in para-athletics, 3 assistants in boccia, 2 goalkeepers in blind soccer, 1 coxswain in para rowing, 3 pilots in para cycling and 4 guides in para triathlon, representing 13 confederations.
For the first time, in Paris in 2024, athletes will wear the colors of France in the 22 sports and 23 disciplines present on the program of the Paralympic Games. This year the CPSF achieved record representation in its sports delegation with 81 women (34.32%) and 155 men (65.68%), although this has yet to reach total parity.
The French delegation is full of promise and new talent. The youngest athlete on this team is Marie N’Goussou, who is competing in her first Paralympic Games in para-athletics at just 15 years old.
In total, the French delegation includes 121 first-time Paralympic participants. This massive presence of newcomers shows France’s commitment to supporting new talent.
Among them, 10 athletes come from the La Relève system, a detection program launched in 2019 by the CPSF to strengthen the 2024 generation and discover talents that would have performance potential in one or more Paralympic sports.
