Googles allows Chrome users to make AI searches without leaving the tab they are currently on.
As reported by Search Engine Land, Google made a message on September 18, 2025, which mentioned two notable AI features that came to Chrome users:
- The ability to use AI mode – a search experience that allows users to enter more complex queries and receive conversation results – directly from the Chrome address bar
- The ability to get AI recommended follow-up questions about the current page that the user is focused on
Here is an example of what AI mode in the Chrome address beam can look like:
Robby Stein, VP for Product on Google Search, gave some comments about contextual suggestions in a post of X:
“Chrome may suggest relevant questions based on the site’s context to help you start your search. You get a useful AI overview on the right side of the page where you can ask follow-up questions with AI mode useful information without ever leaving your current page. This will access the information you want-when you want them-simpler than ever before.”

Google’s message said the possibility of using AI mode in the Chrome address beam (called omnibox) “will roll out in the US later this month.” Contextual suggestions on the page on which a user is available is available in the US for inquiries in English and will soon become available in multiple languages and countries.
Why Google’s new AI features mean something
Google’s new AI search features for Chrome are part of a continued tendency to make AI mode more accessible to users. And it is possible that this availability reduces the number of users that are standard for traditional Google search.
If users start switching to AI mode, brands may have fewer opportunities to get visibility and site traffic from search.
Marie Haynes, owner of Marie Haynes Consulting, was quick to answer one X Posts from Lily RayVP for SEO Strategy & Research at Amsive, about the new AI features. Haynes pointed out that SEOs may need to consider further ways of measuring performance:

This is a good reminder to SEOs that the search landscape is changing quickly. And that there are new ways to measure performance that are specific to AI search.
