Floyd Mayweather finally got his revenge on John Gotti III tonight after the pair finally got back into the ring. The last time they fought, the referee called a stop to the contest, which resulted in Gotti III getting agitated and goading Mayweather, sparking a brawl. Fortunately, the revenge did not go the same way, as ‘Penge’ outclassed his opponent. But how much did he get paid for it?
True to his moniker, Mayweather will obviously make the most of the fight as, despite his retirement, he is still the biggest draw on the entire card.
According to thesportster.com, the 47-year-old is expected to earn somewhere between $20-$25 million from his fight against Gotti.
Meanwhile, the son of notorious mob boss John Gotti III will earn significantly less, with about $5 million to his name.
However, that’s not a bad payday for a boxer who has only fought a handful of times in the ring and has a professional record of 2-0.
This match was an exhibition match and therefore the result of the match will not appear on their records. That said, ‘Money’ made it easy for Gotti as he dominated from start to finish. So despite what the records say, he’s unlikely to forget being outclassed so badly.
To put it into context, Floyd ‘lil broed’ him.
However, there was one point in the match where the 47-year-old became agitated, and it was because of the referee.
Mayweather changes referee during Gotti fight
In just the second round of the fight, Mayweather connected with a right hook and the referee stopped the fight and warned the former champion to stop punching his opponent in the back of the head.
An agitated Mayweather protested saying it was a clean strike and the commentators agreed. Still, the judge seemed unwavering in his decision.
Of course, Mayweather wasn’t too happy about it and let the organizers know it. Well, you can’t do it normally, but when you’re Floyd Mayweather Jr., things happen to you.
So after a lot of back and forth with the referee and a long break in proceedings, the referee stepped out of the ring and a new one stepped in to officiate the rest of the match.
It was a lot like one of the WWE PLEs where Triple H throws out the referee mid-match because he can.
However. Mayweather just wanted to get his shot at Gotti III and didn’t want the referee to constantly stop the fight for various reasons.
The rest of the match was done with a second referee inside the ring, which was also good as fans in the arena also kept booing the second referee who stopped the match.
