Kamala Harris is trying to side with Michigan workers
While Donald Trump was in Detroit (Michigan), Kamala Harris organized a rally in Oakland County, her third rally of the day in this crucial state, after a rally in Grand Rapids then in Lansing.
The Democrat first thanked the Arab-American members in attendance, whose state is home to one of the largest communities in the country. These voters traditionally tend to support the Democratic candidate in presidential elections, but this year they are highly critical of the Biden administration’s support for the war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
“I know this year has been very difficult given the scale of death and destruction in Gaza and the civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon. It’s all devastating”she declared, before seeing in the death of Yahya Sinouar, the leader of Hamas, a “turning point”.
“Everyone must seize this opportunity to end the war in Gaza. Bring the hostages home. And end the suffering once and for all”she urged.
The vice president also took aim at his opponent in the November election, accusing Donald Trump of failing to keep his promises to create more manufacturing jobs. “Donald Trump is making the same empty promises as before, hoping you’ll forget how he let you down last time”she said.
She took the opportunity to broadcast a video in which her Republican rival disparages auto workers in a state known for being a stronghold of the auto industry. “The work you do is complex. You do it very carefully,” she declared. Donald Trump “had everything he needed”, she added, and he’s never had a job “it required heavy hands or an hourly wage.”
She said the Republican’s agenda — including the rates he wants to increase — would threaten new jobs in Michigan.
Kamala Harris also addressed the topic of abortion and promised that she “will sign[it] proud, so it will be allowed » a project that restores the federal right to voluntary termination of pregnancy.
In Michigan, early voting begins on October 26 in most counties. For Detroit, it starts on October 19. “Our voice is our voice and your voice is your power”Kamala Harris exclaimed.
