In a new interview with Michael Christopher of Vanyaland, THE TRUST guitarist Mark Tremonti was asked how many riffs and other ideas he has stored up for the band’s next album. He replied, “Oh, I’ve got thousands. Literally thousands. I’ve been saving my ideas since I was, God, since I bought my first little hand-held tape recorder—those little microcassettes—been saving my ideas since maybe I was in middle school school, high school.”
Regarding the fact that a whole new generation of fans are discovering THE TRUST for the first time and coming out to see the band on the current reunion tour, Mark said: “I think slowly but surely the world has come around and I think people have just aged out of that frame of mind with the band. A lot of people went after the personal behind-the-scenes stuff with THE TRUST too, instead of just listening to the music. I think people have grown up with this music now. They don’t care about all that. They don’t care about the drama; they just appreciate the music.
“A lot of our fans, the biggest base we have now, are under 30, 40 years old, which is very surprising to us,” he continued. “When you sell a ticket today, you find out the gender of the person buying the ticket and where they’re from and how old they are. So when we saw those statistics, we were blown away with the age groups that was to buy these tickets When we play a live show now and Scott [Stapp, CREED singer] asks the crowd: ‘How many of you see your very first THE TRUST show tonight?’, it seems like almost all hands are up in the air, which blows us away.”
THE TRUST started his first tour in 12 years, “Summer of 99”on July 17 at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Earlier this month, Tremonti told Guitar Interactive magazine that he would like to work on some fresh music with his THE TRUST bandmates. He said: “Yes, I love to write music and I love to do it in many different ways. I love to challenge ourselves, I love to be challenged, and to write for all these different acts when you get into that, you’re like, how do I separate this from my other projects, how do we make it its own thing and not sound like this other band with just another vocalist on it?
Expands THE TRUSTs possible mindset while working on new music, Tremonti said: “I think putting a fresh look but also realizing what people loved about the band and trying to keep that intact and not go too progressive in any way with THE TRUST. We stick to that [my other bands] ALTER BRIDGE and TREMONTI and we hold THE TRUST a little more like it was back then – the big tunes, just the stuff that worked back then. I’m thinking about [CREED‘s last album, 2009’s] ‘Full circle’ record, we got something a little bit more — I think we deviated a little bit from our original sound with that album. So I think it would be good to try to return to the original sound a little more.”
With more than 53 million albums sold worldwide, THE TRUST is still one of modern rock’s most successful tracks. Now, 30 years into their incredible journey, THE TRUST is bigger than ever. At the end of 2023 was Texas Rangers made “Higher” their unofficial anthem as it spurred them to their first World Series victory. Earlier this year, the song made a high-profile appearance Paramount+ Super Bowl commercial, while a NASCAR The Daytona 500 campaign also incorporated the hit single. Along the way, THE TRUST has gained a new generation of fans, thanks to countless TikTok videos with their songs.
