In the event of breach of the AERAS Agreement

In the case of current loans at the time of diagnosis

If you have a current loan at the time of your cancer diagnosis, do not forget to use the insurance you have taken out for your bank loans during your sick leave. Read your insurance contracts, especially the conditions for coverage of your monthly benefits and the deadlines within which you must report your situation.

How did the AERAS Convention come about?

As a result of the work that led to the first Belorgey Convention in 2001, the AERAS Convention (Insuring and Borrowing with an Aggravated Health Risk), which entered into force in 2007, was signed by the public authorities, the professional banking associations, for insurance and reciprocity and patient and consumer associations with the aim of expanding access to insurance and loans for people who present or have shown a worsening health risk.

The National Cancer Institute participates in the AERAS system and, thanks to work based on data on healing models, contributes to stimulating discussions about improving the conditions of access to credit for people who pose a worsening health risk. This work makes it possible to include new pathologies in the AERAS reference grid, which can be consulted on this page, and to improve the conditions of access to credit for people suffering from pre-existing pathologies, thus offering more former patients the opportunity to access credit. to implement projects. Action II.12 of the ten-year strategy to fight cancer aims to ensure these benefits for as many former patients as possible.

The AERAS reference grid is regularly updated based on therapeutic advances and epidemiological data available on cancer.

Updating the reference grid

Since September 2023, the revised reference scheme has included a new provision on brain meningiomas (benign tumors).

The National Cancer Institute actively participated in the work, which enabled the update of the reference grid.

“The right to be forgotten”, failure to declare cancer in certain cases

The “right to be forgotten”, announced in 2016 as part of the AERAS Convention, allows you not to declare your previous cancer when applying for a loan. It applies to borrowers whose therapeutic protocol has been completed for 5 years and in the absence of relapse, regardless of the type of cancer.
