Young farmers ready for the party

Les Jeunes agriculteurs prêts pour la fête

Between two horse racing meetings, La Clayette Racecourse will host the Departmental Agricultural Festival, on Saturday 24th August and Sunday 25th August.

For several months, 22 young farmers from the canton of Chauffailles/La Clayette have been preparing for this great annual event.

Plowing competition and combine race

After the great success of last year, which welcomed more than 5,000 visitors to L’Hôpital-Le-Mercier, this new edition will be an opportunity to highlight the lands of the Brionnais bocage.

The weekend starts on Saturday at 18 with a full meal consisting of local products: charcuterie plate (GAEC du Porc Brionnais), braised in sauce (Le Comptoir Charolais) and gratin dauphinois (Hôtel de Bourgogne), then cheeses and local desserts. The organizing committee has indeed chosen to trust that producers, breeders and craftsmen in Brion offer a moment of fun followed by a youth ball. Around 800 guests are expected according to the organisers.

There will be no shortage of entertainment on Sunday 25 August from Connoisseurs, as well as the less initiated audience, will be able to enjoy several events, especially around animals. In addition to the installation of the mini farm, Unge Landmænd will offer a herding dog demonstration in the morning as well as a small cattle competition and various educational activities. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a local farmers market. But the highlight of the morning will undoubtedly be the Moiss’Bat’Cross, an impressive competition of old combines converted into racing machines. On board, each young farmer will proudly represent their canton. For several years, this atypical race has been accompanied by “drag-ass”, old front-wheel-drive cars, of which only a piece of bodywork and the front axle remain. On the back of these amazing machines, two small idle wheels. Another big event, the traditional departmental plowing competition begins at 2:00 p.m.

Call out and raise public awareness

In addition to these festive activities to promote their profession, Young Farmers will endeavor to awaken vocations among the youngest. This festival will also be the ideal time to raise awareness among the general public about the world of agriculture, its difficulties and the importance of consuming locally. The young farmers of Brionnais will not fail to draw attention to the facilities offered to young people who want to become self-employed or take over a farm.
